Middle East Video Project
The students have been studying North Africa and the Middle East in geography. Each student chose a country to research in depth. The students then wrote a report on their country and put together travel videos using "blue screen" technology and Final Cut Express to virtually insert themselves into their countries.

Heifer Project International
The 5th and 6th grades have teamed up to raise money for the non-profit organization Heifer Project International. The money that they raise will contribute to the purchase of animals for families who struggle with hunger and poverty. For more about Heifer Project International, check out their website: http://www.heifer.org. To help with our fundraiser, the Passino family generously offered to bring in two of their goats for the afternoon, and, for a small donation, Tandem students could get their picture taken with the goats.

Building Bridges
The sixth grade students engineered, constructed, and tested truss bridges as an interdisciplinary math and science project. West Point Bridge Builder, a free software program, allowed students to design a truss bridge on a computer and test it with a simulated load. Analyzing the data from the computer program, teams of up to three students built a truss bridge using popsicle sticks and wood glue; the goal was to build a bridge with the highest strength-to-weight ratio.
